PSUT wins first place in regional cybersecurity competition

AMMAN — Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) has won first place in the Middle East regional qualifying round of the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) competition in the field of cybersecurity and intrusion detection. 

The Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition (CPTC) was held visually, said a PSUT statement.

With this win, PSUT qualified for the finals to be held in January of next year in New York City.

The winning team, which is supervised by the Dean of King Hussein School of Computing Sciences, Ashraf Ahmad, and trained by Muhammad Ababneh, consisted of students Rahaf Hujair, Amer Jarrar, Omar Al Shoha, Majd Al Asfar, Yazan Jaber, and Waleed Barakat (team captain).

PSUT President Mashhoor Al Refai, congratulated the winning team and their coach and supervisor. 

Refai added that the University, under the directives of HRH Princess Sumaya, Chair of its Board of Trustees, has always given its students every support to help hone their academic and practical skills, and train them to work as part of a team.

Ahmad said that the essence of the competition is consistent with the undergraduate cybersecurity programme offered by the university.

The programme seeks to provide students with the knowledge, skills and behaviors necessary to analyze and solve problems, and enhance their ability to innovate and adhere to professional, legal and ethical frameworks, he said.

The school has developed a training programme in this field, in cooperation with the American University of Arizona - Tucson, to be the first in Jordan and the region.
