Queen Noor chairs Ethmar microfinance board meeting

AMMAN — Her Majesty Queen Noor on Saturday chaired a meeting of the board of Ethmar for Islamic Microfinance foundation. Queen Noor was briefed on the foundation's latest developments and improvements.

Discussions also went over the foundation's future plans, aiming at providing the services for the largest number of different segments of society. Her Majesty stressed on the necessity of providing diverse social and financial services to be a model for economic empowerment, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Celebrating its third anniversary, Ziad Rifai, CEO of Ethmar, Jordan’s first micro-finance institution offering Sharia-compliant financial products, said that the foundation is looking forward to increase the number of the beneficiaries and easing their burdens in accordance with Sharia.

In accordance with His Majesty King Abdullah's vision to establish social justice and economic empowerment, the Ethmar foundation, affiliated with the King Hussein Foundation and which started operating in late 2015, aims at fighting poverty and unemployment through financing people with limited income and owners of microprojects.
