AMMAN — HRH Crown Prince Hussein, the Regent, visited on Sunday the orphan centre at the Omar Bin Al Khattab Charitable Society in Zarqa to check on the children’s conditions, a Royal Court statement said.

The Crown Prince toured the centre and had a first-hand look at the handicrafts showroom where children display handmade objects they make as part of extracurricular activities involving 34 orphans. The children explained to the Prince their works and the making process.

At the centre's library, Crown Prince Hussein sat with a number of children where he shared some readings with them and chatted with them about their dreams and ambitions for higher education when they grow up.

As for sports, the centre’s officials briefed the Crown Prince on the sports activities at the centre’s gym, where he distributed gifts to the children who in turn congratulated him on his birthday, which fell on Sunday.

Upon His Majesty King Abdullah’s directives, Crown Prince Hussein instructed Royal Court officials to rehabilitate the centre’s building and provide it with the necessary furniture and tools so that it can offer high-quality services.

The Omar Bin Al Khattab Charitable Society was established in 1974, and it is the first orphanage in Zarqa that is a boarding facility, which also carries out charity work targeting underprivileged families and needy university students. It has established schools and contributes to community service in other ways.

The society’s president, Abdul Qader Nazzal, thanked the Crown Prince for issuing directives to rehabilitate the centre that was built in 1982 as one of the society’s projects to receive orphans aged between 4 and 11 years, with a capacity of 50 children.
