AMMAN — Renowned Spanish pianist Pablo Galdo is scheduled to perform a one-hour musical concert at the Royal Cultural Centre in the capital on Wednesday to promote classical music.

The Spanish artist, who was invited by the Spanish embassy and Instituto Cervantes in Amman, said he also wants to promote the art and music of Spain to the Jordanian public.

"Every [place] is different depending on the music and the culture of the people, but when the music is universal like the piece I am going to perform [Wednesday], it can touch the heart of anyone," he told The Jordan Times in an interview.

Galdo will play the complete “Suite española”, composed by Isaac Albéniz. The "unique masterpiece" represents various cities in Spain with their characteristic sounds and rhythms, according to an Instituto Cervantes statement.

The 36-year-old musician — who has given master classes in Spain, Poland, Estonia, Kuwait, Iceland, Kazakhstan, Lithuania and Turkey — said there is still great interest in learning classical music although new modern genres have emerged.

The Spanish artist, whose previous stops in the Middle East included Kuwait and Oman, noted that he will be giving classes at the National Music Conservatory during his visit to the Kingdom.

Galdo studied in Vigo, Madrid, Budapest, Salzburg and Moscow, according to Instituto Cervantes.

He has performed in over 30 countries in Europe, Asia and America, and has won several national and international competitions.

Entry is free to Wednesday's concert, which starts at 7:30pm.
