AMMAN — The Royal Scientific Society (RSS) and the University of Pisa have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop research and technological cooperation in fields of joint interest, a statement by the RSS announced on Tuesday.

The memo, which was signed in the presence of RSS President HRH Princess Sumaya during a visit of a delegation from the Italian university, aims at developing a strategic scientific partnership between the two sides to enhance research and scientific development, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The memo also includes items on administration of hazardous materials, assessment of air quality, climate change challenges, sustainable buildings, ICT solutions, economic and social impacts of refugees in host countries, scientific communication and spreading awareness in the society, among others.

During a meeting with the delegates, Princess Sumaya briefed them on the society and its establishment, development and achievements, noting that the RSS is among the biggest scientific institutions specialised in applied research and consultation both locally and regionally.

The princess said that the RSS offers services related to technical and technological support to most sectors in the Kingdom, highlighting its “good reputation” in research, development, technological and entrepreneurship fields at the local, regional and international levels.

She added that the RSS is equipped with up-to-date laboratories and technical facilities that can execute lab tests accredited locally and internationally.

Francesco Marcelloni, vice rector for international cooperation and relations, referred to the status of the Pisa university, which he said is among the 19 oldest universities in the world, adding that it is ranked among the 300 best universities worldwide.
