Rula Yaghmour announced as winner of ‘Shapes of Water’ project

AMMAN — The Italian embassy in Amman has recently announced designer Rula Yaghmour as the winner of its “Shapes of Water” project, according to a statement sent to The Jordan Times. 

The project, conducted by architect Silvana Annichiarico, was meant to reflect the fundamental importance of water in the region and the effects of climate change, according to the statement. 

Yaghmour’s project "Kutleh", ("stone blocks" in Arabic), was inspired by the ancient clay vessels which held water and were typically located outside houses in the Middle East. 

The designer fused together materials to create vases and containers of different shades. 

The initiative was a part of the "Creative Industries" programme, supported and organised by the European Union National Institutes for Culture. 

This project will be exhibited in 2019 in the Milan exhibition "Broken Nature. Design Takes on Human Survival”.

The project included a competition challenging Jordanian designers to discuss the theme of water and the problems it creates in relation to the needs of the country.
