AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Sunday held talks with Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit that focused on preparations for next month's emergency Arab Summit in Cairo.
Both sides underlined the importance of strengthening joint Arab efforts to address common challenges and safeguard Arab interests, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
They also called for concerted action to ensure a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza and to facilitate the delivery of adequate and continued humanitarian assistance to the war-torn Strip.
They also reiterated opposition to the forced displacement of Palestinians, stressing that the reconstruction of Gaza should take place without displacing its residents.
They also underlined that Egypt, with the support of the Arab world, is developing a plan to achieve this goal.
Safadi and Aboul Gheit also expressed their deep concern about the situation in the occupied West Bank, calling for an immediate stop to illegal Israeli actions that risk further destabilisation.
They reiterated that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with a two-state situation, remains the only viable solution for lasting peace, security and stability in the region.
The discussions also addressed the latest developments in Syria, underlining the need to support the Syrian people in rebuilding their country, ensuring its unity, security and stability and protecting the rights of all Syrian communities, while combating terrorism.
