Safadi meets UAE FM, foreign counterparts in Dubai

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Saturday evening met with UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Dubai and followed up on the outcomes of the talks held in Amman last week and means to enhance the “strategic brotherly ties” between the countries.

During the meeting, held on the sidelines of the 12th Sir Bani Yas Forum, the two ministers stressed continuous cooperation in various fields and enhancing coordination over regional and joint issues in implementation of the directives of both countries’ leaderships to serve the interests of Amman, Abu Dhabi and Arab causes.

Safadi also met with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar over means to develop bilateral ties and hold comprehensive talks within the next few months to increase cooperation in the economic, investment and trade fields, according to a Foreign Ministry statement. 

Also on the sidelines of the forum, Safadi met with Iraq’s Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and stressed the Kingdom’s “utmost solidarity” with Iraq in facing all its challenges.

The foreign minister also stressed Jordan’s support for the Iraqi government’s efforts to enhance security and realise the aspirations of the Iraqi people.

Hussein praised the Kingdom’s “effective stances” in supporting Iraq, voicing keenness to expand cooperation in all fields.

Safadi, in a trilateral meeting with Hussein and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri, overviewed steps in implementation of the recent trilateral summits, importantly the Baghdad summit that was held in late June.

Safadi further held talks with Shukri, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias and Cypriot Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides on enhancing cooperation among the four countries and means to coordinate efforts in the economic, commercial, tourist and investment fields and regional issues.

The minister also discussed the latest developments in Lebanon with UN Special Coordinator in Lebanon Joanna Wronecka, stressing the importance of protecting the country and its stability. He voiced the Kingdom’s solidarity with Lebanon in facing its current crises and ramifications on the Lebanese people.

He visited the Jordanian pavilion participating in the Expo 2021 Dubai and listened to a briefing on the pavilion by stakeholders. Safadi also visited the Emirati and Palestinian pavilions and commended the “distinguished” organisation of the exhibition.
