AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi held talks on Wednesday with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy that focused on bilateral relations and latest regional developments.
The two top diplomats also underlined the need to de-escalate tensions in the region and secure a lasting ceasefire in both Gaza and Lebanon, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
They also underlined their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation in various fields.
Safadi and Lammy expressed serious concern about the ongoing violence and the threat it poses to regional security and stability.
Safadi underlined the need for a "swift international response to stop Israeli aggression against Gaza and Lebanon, as well as to end Israel's illegal actions and provocations in the occupied West Bank," the statement said.
The ministers stressed the need to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, with Safadi describing the situation there as a humanitarian catastrophe exacerbated by continued Israeliaggression and blockades.
He warned that allowing Israel to continue its actions would further violate international law, including humanitarian law, the UN Charter and relevant international resolutions, the statement said.
Safadi reiterated Jordan's support for Lebanon's security, stability and the safety of its citizens, and condemned the aggression it is facing. He also stressed the need for the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
Safadi reiterated that the two-state solution, which provides for an independent Palestinian State based on the 4 June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, remains the only viable way to ensure lasting peace, security and stability in the region.
