AMMAN — Police on Wednesday said they were searching for several suspects in connection with an armed robbery of a money exchange in Amman earlier in the day.
“We received a complaint that several armed men stormed into an exchange shop near the Queen Alia Airport Highway and waved guns at the employees demanding cash,” Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.
The suspects escaped with JD3,000 in cash, the police official told The Jordan Times.
No one was injured in the incident, Sartawi added.
Meanwhile, crime lab technicians collected evidence from the scene of the robbery, according to Sartawi.
“We have formed a special team that is tasked with following up on the incident,” Sartawi added.
Suspects of armed robberies of banks and other financial entities are tried by the State Security Court (SSC).
The SCC usually considers these robberies as activities that would endanger the safety of society, disturbing public order, spreading fear among citizens and jeopardising economic resources.
