AMMAN — The Senate Health, Environment and Population Committee met with Vice President of the Jordanian Society for the Promotion of Organ Donation Ahmad Khanji, and a number of its members, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Heading the committee, Senator Yassin Hasban highlighted the humanitarian importance of organ donation, calling for intensified efforts to encourage donations.
Hasban indicated that there are a number of obstacles facing the process of organ donation, transfer and transplantation in the Kingdom, foremost of which is the societal challenge. This is related to persuading parents of brain-dead patients to donate organs and encouraging them to fill out the relevant forms, Petra reported.
Hasban stressed the importance of developing a national strategy for organ donation, which would save the state the financial costs of treating chronic diseases such as kidney failure.
Khanji briefed the committee about the society’s mission and goals, calling for the establishment of a national centre for organ transplantation comprising all medical sectors and institutions concerned in the field.
