Senate president, House speaker meet South Korean parliamentary delegation

AMMAN — Senate President Faisal Fayez on Sunday met with a South Korean parliamentary delegation, headed by member of the Korean National Assembly, Lee Wan Koo, the Jordan News.

The Senate president urged South Korean businesspeople to invest in the Kingdom, which “provides a fertile investment environment in many sectors”, most notably religious tourism, public transport, energy production and mining industries.

He highlighted His Majesty King Abdullah’s visits to South Korea as a reflection of the depth of strategic relations between the countries, adding that Jordan, with its geographical location constitutes “a gateway” for conducting business with countries in the region. 

Stressing the importance of increasing the volume of Jordanian exports to South Korea, Fayez also underlined the need to increase the number of Korean tourists visiting the Kingdom and enhance economic cooperation, especially in the energy field.

Lee referred to the two countries’ celebration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, expressing his country's keenness to expand cooperation between the friendly countries, especially in regard to parliamentary affairs.

South Korea has “great interest” in strengthening cooperation with Jordan, especially in the fields of energy and religious tourism, he said.

Also on Sunday, Lower House Speaker Abdulkarim Dughmi met with the guest delegation and discussed ways to bolster bilateral relations, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During the meeting, Dughmi hailed the Jordanian-Korean relations, which were established over 60 years ago.  

The meeting focused on a number of regional and international issues of common interest, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause.

Dughmi stressed Jordan's firm position, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, towards Palestine, calling for providing support to Palestinians in various forms to enable them defend their cause and materialise their right to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

In turn, Lee expressed his country's keenness to develop relations with Jordan in the economic, commercial, technological and cultural fields.

He said that the Korean parliamentary delegation’s visit, which includes representatives from the economic, industrial and commercial sectors, comes as part of efforts to further relations between the countries.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Lower House Foreign Affairs Committee Khaldoun Haina and South Korean Ambassador to Jordan Lee Jae-wan.
