Senate president says Gaza ceasefire 'triumph' for Palestinians, reiterates Jordan's rejection of forced displacement

AMMAN — Senate President Faisal Fayez has hailed the ceasefire in Gaza as a" triumph for the Palestinian resistance and the Hamas movement which was "able to impose its terms of the Israeli occupation leaders".

In an interview with Al Jazeera news channel, Fayez stressed that Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu "failed to impose his terms and the Israeli occupation forces did not achieve any military advancements in Gaza after almost a month-and-a-half of aggression."

Israel's only achievement was its brutal massacres and war crimes against children, women and civilians, he said.

He added that Israel's military strategy to eradicate Hamas did not succeed, noting that Netanyahu's threats to resume hostilities after the ceasefire would not lead to the elimination of Hamas or achieve any of Israel's goals.

Fayez said that Jordan and Egypt strongly reject Israeli schemes to displace Palestinians in Gaza to Egypt and in occupied West Bank to Jordan, adding that Amman and Cairo would respond firmly to such plans as emphasized by His Majesty King Abdullah and President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi.

Fayez said that the King has made it clear that Jordan would react to forced displacement of Palestinians as a declaration of war particularly in light of the ongoing attacks and raids in the West Bank, which have so far killed around 200 Palestinians and displaced about a thousand families.

Fayez said that Israel's goal is clear: The forced displacement of Palestinians.

He stressed that silence on war crimes in Gaza, where the majority of victims are children and women, is unacceptable and that Israel cannot continue to act above the international law.
