AMMAN — The Senate on Thursday commended the Foreign Ministry's decision to recall the Kingdom's ambassador to Tel Aviv in protest against the ongoing Israeli war against the besieged Gaza Strip and the resulting humanitarian catastrophe.

The Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that said it would "immediately" recall Amman ambassador to Tel Aviv in protest against the Israeli war against Gaza and the mounting civilian death toll.

The ministry said that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Ayman Safadi also instructed that the Israelis be notified not to return their ambassador to Amman.

"We recalled our ambassador from Israel & informed it not to resend its envoy in protest against its inhumane war on Gaza that’s killed thousands of Palestinian civilians, is causing a humanitarian catastrophe that’ll haunt generations to come & is threatening regional security," Safadi wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Senate President Faisal Fayez said that the decision to recall Jordan's envoy to Israel signified the Kingdom's rejection of the ongoing war on Gaza and the "genocide" committed by the Israelis against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

Fayez stressed the Senate's support for the efforts made by His Majesty King Abdullah in defence of the Palestinian cause, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Also on Thursday the Jordan Press Association (JPA) expressed its full support for the government's decision to recall the ambassador to Israel.

"The recall of the Jordanian ambassador is an important and honourable step with political implications that strengthen Jordan's firm position on the ongoing aggression on Gaza and the genocidal war waged by the “Zionist” entity against the Palestinians," JPA said in a statement.

The JPA called on Arab and Islamic nations to rally behind Jordan's position and the efforts led by His Majesty King Abdullah to bring an end to the Israeli aggression against Gaza.
