Solution to crisis in Syria immediate priority — FM

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Ayman Safadi on Tuesday participated in the coordination meeting of the Arab Ministerial Contact Committee on Syria.
This meeting preceded the committee's inaugural meeting with the Syrian foreign minister, which aimed to set a comprehensive resolution of the crisis in Syria and to address its multiple humanitarian, security and political repercussions, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
The committee, during the meeting, endorsed a working methodology to promote a constructive dialogue with the Syrian government towards implementing the Amman statement, while moving forward towards a solution for the crisis.
Safadi, during the committee's deliberations with the Syrian foreign minister, emphasised the immediate priority of finding a solution to the crisis in Syria that addresses all its impacts.
Safadi also stressed the importance of Arab efforts aimed at resolving the crisis and alleviating the suffering of the Syrian people, as well as threats posed by the ongoing crisis to regional stability.
Safadi reiterated the urgent need for the meeting to produce tangible measures that lead to a solution to the crisis in Syria.
According to the final communiqué of the meeting, the participants emphasised the importance of political solutions for the crisis and humanitarian assistance, as well as supporting the implementation of the Amman statement.
They also called for facilitating the voluntary and safe return of refugees, and highlighted the need to support joint anti-drug and terrorism efforts and stressed Syria’s sovereignty and security.
The committee submitted its proposals to the Syrian foreign minister for the implementation of the measures discussed, notably the Amman statement.
The committee took a first-hand look at the efforts made by Syria in various fields, and encouraged the Syrian government to continue its proactive steps and measures aimed at addressing the multifaceted repercussions of the crisis, fulfilling the aspirations of the Syrian people, helping them to overcome the challenges and moving towards a promising future.
The participants expressed their gratitude to Egypt for hosting the meeting. They also commended the constructive participation of the Syrian foreign minister, who in turn expressed the Syrian government’s appreciation for the central role played by the Arab Contact Committee, notably its efforts to restore Syria’s “natural position” on both regional and global fronts.
The participants agreed on scheduling the forthcoming meeting of the committee with the Syrian foreign minister in Baghdad. In addition, they agreed to establish a skilled contact team of experts to facilitate follow-up and prepare for the upcoming meeting.
