AMMAN — A student's claims of having been beaten by his teacher led to a fight in Qadisieh on Thursday, according to the Public Security Department (PSD).

The Salah Addin School student, who was unidentified, went home on Thursday and complained that a teacher hit him.

"Four members of the student's family headed to school and started a fight with the teacher after classes," PSD Spokesperson Maj. Amer Sartawi told The Jordan Times over the phone.

He noted that no injuries were reported and that both parties were at the police station at the time of call.

"No conciliation has been reached yet and investigations are under way," Sartawi said.

Meanwhile, the Jordan Teachers Association (JTA) said the family of the student carried "cleavers" and threatened the teachers with "firearms", while Sartawi underlined that the fight was only "physical" and that "critical injuries or deaths" would have been reported if weapons had been used.

According to the JTA, another brawl took place in Ruseifa less than two hours after the first one, when a group of secondary school students attacked a teacher and principal for calling one of the student's parents over "some behavioural issues".

The students broke the school door but no injuries were reported, according to a JTA statement.

Sartawi said he had no information on this incident.
