AMMAN — Police late Tuesday arrested a suspect after he reportedly shot and killing one man and injured another in an Amman neighbourhood earlier in the day, official sources said.
The victim and the suspect had an argument over an old feud and it became heated after several people got involved in the fight in Misdar suburb, Public Security Department Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.
“The suspect pulled a gun and started shooting at the people involved in the fight, killing one and injuring another,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times on Wednesday.
The suspect then fled the scene, the police official added.
“We were able to locate his whereabouts within two hours. He was arrested without any major incidents,” the official added.
Sartawi said that in his initial confessions to investigators, the suspect said the argument was the result of unresolved old feuds.
But the police official added that the suspect was referred to the criminal court prosecutor for further questioning and will be indicted in the coming days.
The suspect was ordered detained for 15 days at a correctional and rehabilitation centre, pending further investigation into the incident, a senior judicial source said.
