AMMAN — Police on Thursday announced the arrest of a 27-year-old man who allegedly shot and killed his married sister and her husband’s other wife in Balqa Governorate earlier in the day.

The suspect reportedly barged into their home and shot the two victims, Public Security Department (PSD) Spokesperson Maj. Amer Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

“The suspect then fled the scene to an unknown destination and police deployed checkpoints in various parts of Balqa [35km northwest of Amman],” Sartawi said.

“Authorities found him hiding in a deserted area and arrested him,” the police official added.

Criminal Court Prosecutor Ishaq Abu Awad was scheduled to start questioning the suspect late Thursday to learn more about the incident, a senior judicial source said.

An autopsy conducted by pathologists Azzam Haddad and Hussein Abul Samen revealed that the suspect's 30-year-old sister died of six gunshot wounds to the chest, head and back, a medical source told The Jordan Times.

She was three-months pregnant.

The second victim, aged 50, died of a gunshot wound to the back, the source said.

The pathologists deduced that the 30-year-old woman was the target of the shooting, as she received the majority of the bullets, while the older woman is believed to have been accidentally hit in the process, according to the source.
