Three dailies to issue print editions today

AMMAN — Three major daily newspapers will continue to hit newsstands on Monday, while Al Ghad will not be issued due to weather conditions.

The Jordan Times, Al Rai and Ad Dustour will be published Monday as the effect of the storm started to subside and main roads in the capital and other cities were reopened, making it possible for staff members to reach their work.

According to the management of the newspapers, distribution of print copies was expected to start later than usual due to expected ice formation.

Al Ghad daily announced on its website that it will not issue a print edition Monday but will resume publishing Tuesday.

The Public Security Department prohibited traffic in various parts of the Kingdom Friday and Saturday night due to ice formation and snowfall which caused slippery roads.

The major newspapers continued to update their websites during the storm to keep readers informed of the situation, mainly weather conditions, road closures and major developments.

As a precautionary measure, authorities have urged people not to leave their homes at night and early in the day due to freezing temperatures and ice on the roads.

The government had declared Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday as public holidays — except in the port city of Aqaba — due to these conditions.

Public departments are scheduled to start work at 11am on Monday, according to a communiqué issued by Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour.

The Central Bank of Jordan said on Sunday that banks will start receiving clients at 11am on Monday, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
