AMMAN — The criminal court prosecutor on Saturday charged three people with premeditated murder in connection with the killing of a 37-year-old man in Irbid over the weekend, official sources said.

The three suspects reportedly confessed to Criminal Court Prosecutor Qahtan Qawaqzeh that they murdered the victim on Thursday night over old feuds related to public transport bus licences, a senior judicial source said.

“One of the suspects is a close relative of the victim and they constantly quarrelled about issues related to bus licences and routes in Irbid,” the source told The Jordan Times.

On Thursday night, the source said, the three suspects, along with other men, engaged in a heated argument with the victim.

“Following the argument, everyone was involved in a car chase where the two sides were shooting at each other until the men managed to stop the victim and kill him,” the source added.

A medical source told The Jordan Times that the victim was “first shot in the legs to prevent him from moving and then they stabbed him repeatedly with swords and shot him with guns”.

Investigators retrieved several weapons from the suspects and sent them to the criminal lab for a ballistics match.

The suspects will be detained at a correctional and rehabilitation centre, pending further investigation by Qawaqzeh.
