Tourism revenues drop by 20.7% in first 7 months of 2021 — CBJ

AMMAN — Tourism revenues in the first seven months of 2021 decreased by 20.7 per cent to $915 million compared with the same period of 2020, the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) said on Tuesday. Tourism in July alone, for the fourth consecutive month continued to improve.

Tourism revenues in July 2021 increased by $268 million to $292.4 million compared with July 2020, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported, citing CBJ figures.

The bank attributed the hike to the improvement in the epidemiological situation and the number of vaccinated people in the Kingdom. CBJ data showed an increase in the number of tourists to some 261,000 in July, where non-resident Jordanians comprised 43.5 per cent, Arab tourists (excluding Gulf nationals) 26.4 per cent and Gulf tourists comprised 18.6 per cent.

On the other hand, Jordanians’ expenditures on tourism abroad in the January-July period of 2021 went up by 29.2 per cent to $402 million, compared with a 67.1 per cent drop in the same period of 2020, the CBJ added.
