Umayyad oil lamp unearthed in Mafraq’s Byzantine Cathedral

AMMAN — An archaeological team has discovered an ancient oil lamp in Mafraq’s Um Al Jimal area, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Tuesday.

Mafraq Antiquities Department Director Abdulqadir Hussan said the lamp, found inside the ancient Byzantine Cathedral at Um Al Jimal, dates back to the Umayyad period. The finding bears an Arabic Kufic inscription that reads: “Made by Atiyah”. The lamp was delivered to Mafraq’s museum.
