US-funded wastewater network handed over to Jordanian control

AMMAN — A new US-government funded wastewater network was handed over to the Jordan Water Authority and Miyahuna Company in Zarqa on Monday as part of the $275-million Millennium Challenge Compact (MCC) to Jordan, according to a statement released Monday by the Millennium Challenge Account–Jordan (MCA–Jordan).

Ninety-two kilometres of new sewage lines have been completed, increasing the total coverage of the sewerage system to 300km in Zarqa, Ruseifa and Hashemiyeh.

The Wastewater Network Project is expected to benefit 142,000 people in Zarqa Governorate, reducing the environmental and public health impacts of sewerage overflows and water wastage. MCA – Jordan is a company owned by the Jordanian government which administers MCC-funded projects.
