VTC, Global Affairs Canada representatives discuss partnership in ‘Women Leaders’ project

AMMAN — Director General of the Vocational Training Corporation (VTC) Ahmed Gharaibeh and Deputy Director of International Assistance at Global Affairs Canada Jane Palmer, and her accompanying delegation, on Wednesday discussed ways to develop cooperation between the VTC and the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) with a focus on a women’s economic empowerment and career development project called “Women Leaders” .

During the meeting, held at the Irbid Girls Institute for Vocational Training, Palmer was briefed on the accredited and gender-sensitive training programmes provided by “Women Leaders” project in the sectors of health, early childhood development and care services for Jordanian young women, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Palmer also met several employers, trainees and trainers, and toured the institute’s workshops and nursery.

Expressing the VTC’s pride in the partnership with the Canadian delegation within the scope of the Women Leaders project, Gharaibeh stressed his keenness to enhance cooperation and partnership to develop training programmes that keep pace with modern technology and the needs of the local and regional labour market.

The two sides’ partnership in this project began in 2018 with the aim of enabling young women to join the VTC’s quality training programmes across the Kingdom, Gharaibeh said, adding that this partnership helped the VTC win the El Hassan Bin Talal Award for Scientific Excellence for 2022, which is awarded to vocational and technical education institutions.

Gharaibeh said that the corporation continues to implement its strategic plan and strengthen its partnership with all development sectors and donors to provide opportunities for the youth, continually working to develop Jordan’s training services.

For her part, WUSC Director in Jordan Nancy Momani commended the VTC’s role in empowering women in Jordan and providing them with training programmes.
