AMMAN — The Criminal Court prosecutor on Sunday charged a 22-year-old woman with manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of her husband on his birthday over the weekend in the Central Badia District, official sources said.

The couple was at their ranch in the Lubban area on Friday when the incident occurred, a senior judicial source and Public Security Department Spokesperson Maj. Amer Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

In her initial testimony to police and Criminal Court Prosecutor Ramzy Nawayseh, the woman told investigators that her 27-year-old husband was teaching her how to shoot from his gun, the judicial source said.

“It seems a bullet ricocheted and struck the husband in the chest,” the judicial source added, quoting the wife’s initial testimony.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival, he said.

A post-mortem conducted by a team of pathologists indicated that he died of a single bullet wound to the chest that was fired from a distance, according to Kais Koussous, director of the National Institute of Forensic Medicine.

“We have also taken samples from the victim and sent them to the crime lab for further analysis,” Koussous told The Jordan Times.

The couple has a two-year-old son and a two-month-old daughter, according to the judicial source.

Nawayseh issued orders for the woman to be detained at a women’s correctional facility pending furtherinvestigation.

“The criminal prosecutor will summon family members and friends for questioning and will also wait for the crime lab result before preparing the indictment sheet,” the judicial source said.
