Devising roadmap to development

Mar 14,2022 - Last updated at Mar 14,2022

HRH Crown Prince Hussein has stressed the importance of capitalising on the points of strength in the tourism sector.

Attending part of the tourism sector’s interactive session, during the third round of the National Economic Workshop on Saturday, the Crown Prince called for moving from theory to practice to ensure the actual implementation of recommendations on the ground.

The National Economic Workshop, launched upon His Majesty King Abdullah’s directives in his letter to Jordanians in late January, will come up with a set of crucial and thoroughly studied recommendations to draw a roadmap for action plans to be implemented to modernise the economy and enhance the quality of life and services for Jordanians.

Three rounds into its session, the workshop has been witnessing deep and open discussions with the participation of all stakeholders, including the public and private sectors, media, economists, members of academia and experts in other fields.

The success of this initiative lies in the proper and effective implementation of the recommendations, followed by active and incessant measures to enhance the business environment and attract investments coupled with stability in legislations, to mention a few. Above all, the public must be able to reap the benefits of the outcomes of the workshop.

Stressing the importance of the national workshop, His Majesty has called for capitalising on the great potential and advantages that Jordan offers, especially in the fields of mining, energy, renewable energy, information technology, tourism, healthcare, agriculture and creative industries.

The third round of discussions shed light on various promising sectors in the Kingdom including the various types of tourism, higher education and creative industries. Last week’s discussions also emphasised on the promising prospects of the textile sector, which according to stakeholders created 3,000 jobs in 2021 alone.

It needs to be stressed that, despite the promising outlook, the actual work begins upon the conclusion of these series of in-depth discussions and strictly adhering to the roadmap the national workshop outlines.

Accountability and timely follow-ups are a must to ensure sustainability and effectiveness of the implementation of the workshop’s outcomes within a specific timeframe to assess progress and address loopholes.
