Jordan and its true friends triumphed

Feb 22,2025 - Last updated at Feb 22,2025

Jordan, the region and the Palestinian cause have all experienced difficult political moments over the past weeks since US President Donald Trump has unveiled his plan to rebuild Gaza by forcibly displacing its population to Jordan and Egypt.

During this challenging period, we found ourselves, alongside Egypt, under the fire of under the fire of the camp of doubt in the region from factions and organisations far more powerful than them. However, Jordan’s focus was directed at confronting this project through direct engagement with the US administration using logic, sound reasoning, and highlighting the risks of displacement on the region, alongside a clear and strong stance in rejecting displacement in all its forms and levels.

With all this burden carried by Jordan, along with sincere brotherly countries, some within our ranks and in the region were busy launching campaigns to sow doubts about Jordan and made no effort to confront displacement. The goal was to tarnish the image of Jordan and the Jordanians. This fifth column became a symbol of complacency, and its true nature was revealed—it claimed to support Gaza but actually supported organisations rather than Gaza and its people. They remained silent on confronting displacement after having loudly criticised Jordan and praised factional leaders in the streets of Amman, even though Gaza, under attack, is the one targeted by the displacement project.

The US administration's retreat from adopting and enforcing the project was not a coincidence, nor was it a momentary decision; rather, it was the result of Jordanian effort and a strong stance, as well as a strong stance from Arab countries such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

History will remember His Majesty King Abdullah’s resolute position in opposing the so-called "Deal of the Century" and in rejecting the displacement scheme. It will also remember the sincerity of the Jordanian people—how they stood with Palestine, their country, and their leadership. This is not just a moment in time; it will be etched into the proud history of Jordan and its people for generations to come.
