SALT — Agriculture Minister Akef Zu’bi on Monday called on the private sector to invest in agricultural projects to create job opportunities and secure additional income for farmers.

Inaugurating an agriculture festival in Balqa, Zu’bi described the Kingdom’s agriculture sector as pioneering and capable of overcoming all obstacles.

Jordan Agricultural Engineers Association President Mahmoud Abu Ghneimeh called for more efforts to improve the sector, saying that achieving self-sufficiency in food production consolidates the country’s independence.

The head of Balqa agricultural directorate, Hani Hiyasat, said the central governorate has around 698,000 dunums of agricultural land.
