AMMAN — Agriculture Minister Akef Zu’bi on Saturday said the ministry is ready to meet with farmers and listen to their demands to arrive at a satisfactory solution to their problems.
Zu’bi said the ministry will acquaint farmers with government efforts to open new export markets and its measures to protect local produce from competition posed by imports.
Adnan Khadam, head of the Jordan Valley Farmers Union, said no official has met with farmers protesting in Dabouq.
Farmers’ accumulative losses for 2012 and 2013 reached around JD270 million because the border with Syria, which represents a main gateway for exports, has been closed.
