Gradual rise in temperatures forecast over weekend

AMMAN — Temperatures will gradually rise to their annual average for this time of year starting on Friday when an upper trough is expected to affect the country, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said on Thursday.

A slight rise in mercury levels is forecast for Friday, when the weather will be relatively cold in mountainous areas, fair in the desert and warm in the Jordan Valley and Aqaba, according to a JMD meteorologist, who said light morning showers are expected in the northern region.

Despite the slight increase in temperatures on Friday, they will remain below their annual average of 23ºC for this time of year, the weather forecaster told The Jordan Times.

Temperatures in Amman will range between a high of 17ºC during the day and a low of 8ºC at night, while winds will be northwesterly moderate to brisk at times.

Another rise in temperatures is forecast for Saturday as the upper trough continues affecting the Kingdom and the weather will be fair, according to the meteorologist.

Daytime temperatures in the capital will reach 22ºC and drop to 8ºC overnight, while winds will be southeasterly moderate.

On Sunday, the country will be affected by “a weak Red Sea depression”, said the meteorologist, who requested anonymity, highlighting that Red Sea depressions usually bring Khamsini-like weather conditions, including above average temperatures and dusty weather.

The weather on Sunday will be moderate in most parts of the country and relatively hot in the Jordan Valley and Aqaba, while temperatures will be three degrees above their annual average, the weather forecaster said.

Temperatures will range between a maximum of 26ºC and a minimum of 15ºC in Amman and winds will be southeasterly to southwesterly moderate to brisk at times.
