Irbid sees progress in virus fight — health official

AMMAN — The northern governorate of Irbid is witnessing progress in “flattening the curve” of the coronavirus pandemic, Wael Hayajneh, the official overseeing the coronavirus situation in the north, said on Wednesday.

In the health sector, the “curve” refers to the projected number of people who will contract the virus over a span of time, according to online sources.

However, the official said that “we should not rely too comfortably on these indicators".

Hayajneh stressed that the next few days are “critical” and that “a single new case might undermine all previous efforts and bring the situation back to square one”.

The official stressed that controlling and limiting the pandemic depends primarily on the public’s awareness and cooperation with the government's efforts, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Hayajneh highlighted the commitment of people in Irbid and their cooperation with the epidemiological inspection teams, praising the initiative of many citizens there to get tested.

He said that these actions together have contributed to a decrease in the rate of infections, noting that “the coming days will bring good news for Jordanians if they continue to adhere to all announced instructions and measures”.

He pointed out that the crisis management has been carried out with the direct follow-up and guidance of His Majesty King Abdullah, in addition to efforts made by HRH Crown Prince Hussein.

Hayajneh said that the 25 epidemiological inspection teams in Irbid are still working at a steady pace, supported by volunteer teams of experienced doctors.
