AMMAN — Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the Israeli government’s decision to expedite construction and expansion of settlements, paving the way for thousands of settlement units to be built in the West Bank.
The ministry’s spokesperson and Ambassador Sinan Majali stressed that settlement expansion and the displacement of residents of their homes is a blatant violation and a grave breach of international law in addition to the international legitimacy resolutions, mainly Security Council Resolution No. 2334, calling for immediate action by the international community to halt Israeli unilateral measures.
Majali also stated that Israel’s practices, as the occupying power, such as building and expanding settlements, confiscating land and displacing Palestinians, are illegal, illegitimate, rejected and condemned.
These practices represent a serious violation of international humanitarian law and undermine the foundations of peace and the prospects for a two-state solution.
