Jordan, Netherlands discuss location of flower market

AMMAN — The location of Amman’s flower market will be the subject of a feasibility study after a grant agreement was signed with the Dutch government on Saturday.
Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Lilianne Ploumen and President of the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) Committee Yousef Shawarbeh signed an agreement which will explore the possibility of moving the market.
Shawarbeh said that the study is the first step towards establishing a new flower market in the Kingdom according to international standards, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
He added that GAM will be responsible for providing a plot of land near the airport and administering the flower trade at the new market, in partnership with the the Jordanian Association for Cut and Ornamental Plants. For her part, Ploumen expressed her country’s readiness to share expertise with Jordan to help Amman become a regional hub for the flower trade.
