AMMAN — Prime Minister Hani Mulki on Saturday attended a ceremony to honour winners of the King Hussein Award for Excellence in Journalism and former presidents of the Jordan Press Association (JPA), the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The ceremony, organised by the JPA, was attended by Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani and several officials and JPA Council members.
JPA President Rakan Saaideh said local media suffer from managerial and financial crises which resulted in its inability to shape the public opinion, which is now under the “influence” of foreign media and new communication tools.
However, he said that during a meeting with the prime minister two days prior to the ceremony, he was “optimistic” that there will be solutions to rectify the shortcomings in the local media scene regarding administration, finance and quality of work.
The award for best investigative report went to Abdullah Rbeihat from Al Ghad Arabic daily.
