‘Basma’ youth empowerment summer programme concludes

AMMAN — Deputising for HRH Crown Prince Hussein, Education Minister Azmi Mahafzah on Sunday attended the closing ceremony of the "Basma" programme, which was organised with the aim of equipping school students with useful skills during summer holiday.

A total of 50,000 female and male students from the ninth and tenth grades of 140 schools, representing 42 education directorates in the Kingdom, participated in Basma (fingerprint), the Jordan News Agency, Petra, said.

The programme, implemented by the Education Ministry with support from the Crown Prince Foundation, was designed to promote self-confidence, develop leadership qualities, highlight the importance of teamwork and volunteerism, and boost the national morale.

Delivering a speech, Mahafzah said that the programme, was in line with the ministry's focus on extracurricular activities, Petra reported. 

Describing "Basma" as a pioneering nationwide endeavour and an added value the ministry's educational activities director, Najwa Qbeilat said that the programme was a "window" for students to view their societies and expose them to the national folklore and arts.     

In August, the Crown Prince joined students for a dialogue session on ways to enhance students' abilities to make decisions and accept others' points of views at Zaid Bin Harithah Secondary School for Boys in Madaba.

His Royal Highness also attended a workshop on public safety with civil defence cadres and watched military training in the school yard under the supervision of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army.
