AMMAN —Twenty-four people have drowned since the beginning of this year, according to figures released by the Civil Defence Department (CDD), which said that 13 others have been injured in water-related accidents.
The media office of the CDD said in a statement issued on Sunday that drowning accidents were mainly due to ignoring safety instructions near bodies of water during picnics.
The CDD urged people to observe warning signs and not to fish in dams and said that non-swimmers should not attempt to rescue others.
