AMMAN — A boy died on Saturday after falling into an agricultural pool in the southern Karak Governorate three days earlier, a civil defence official said.
The boy was taken to Ghor Al Safi Hospital last Wednesday after nearly drowning in an agricultural pool in the Nabea area of Safi, the official told The Jordan Times.
He was listed in fair condition at the hospital but died on Saturday, the Civil Defence Department (CDD) official said, adding that the boy’s death was caused by his near-drowning.
Earlier this month, the CDD said 24 people have drowned since the beginning of this year, while13 others have been injured in water-related accidents.
The media office of the CDD said in a statement issued on Sunday that drowning accidents are mainly due to ignoring safety instructions near bodies of water during picnics.
The CDD urged people to observe warning signs and not to fish in dams, and warned that non-swimmers should not attempt to rescue others.
