3,631 electricity violations reported since beginning of 2018

AMMAN — The Energy & Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) announced that a total of 3,631 electricity violations have been recorded since the beginning of the year through 47,661 programmed periodic inspections, according to a statement by the commission.
EMRC Chief Commissioner Farouq Hiyari said 1,804 violations were detected during inspections carried out by the commission in cooperation with electricity distribution companies, Public Security Department (PSD) and Gendarmerie.
The total number of cases detected by electricity distribution companies amounted to 1,259 cases, while the PSD and Gendarmerie detected 568 cases in cooperation with electricity distribution companies.
According to Hiyari, the number of violations uncovered by the law enforcement unit at the commission was 1,169 in the areas supplied by the Jordan Electric Power Co. and 171 in the areas supplied by the Electricity Distribution Co., with the remaining 464 falling under Irbid District Electricity Company.
He said that the number of cases in which court verdicts were issued during the past two months stood at 401, and the number of cases registered at courts since the beginning of the year until February was 282 cases.
Hiyari stressed that the commission continues to exercise its supervisory role on the electricity system across the Kingdom and enforce the law regarding the performance of electricity distribution companies in the country.
