Abu Rumman says ministry will launch national strategy for youth

AMMAN — Deputising for HRH Crown Prince Hussein, Minister of Youth Mohammad Abu Rumman on Saturday sponsored the closing conference of “The Jordan We Want 2030” initiative at Al Hussein Technical University.

The initiative was organised by the Hayat Centre for Civil Society Development — Rased, in cooperation with Al Hussein Technical University, the Lower House's Education Committee, the All Jordan Youth Commission and the “Ana Usharek” (I Participate) Programme.

Giving a speech, Abu Rumman affirmed that the government and the institutions it works with seek to organise the youth’s efforts and provide their actions with a framework, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He added that that the Youth Ministry will soon be launching a national strategy for the youth, prioritising entrepreneurship and civic duty.

The minister called on the youth to become more engaged in the public sphere and to be optimistic about the future, eschewing negativity surrounding the effect of change.

He pointed that youth from around the Kingdom possess the ability to deal with these obstacles, Petra said.

Director General of Rased Amer Bani Amer said that the goal of the initiative, which witnessed the participation of 3,000 young men and women, was to create a national document which includes the youth’s vision and expectations for their country with regards to various issues and fields.

Once complete, the document will be referred to the Cabinet and Lower House, Petra reported.

A roundtable discussion was held during the conference, tackling the outcomes of the initiative. It was led by the CEO of the All Jordan Youth Commission Abdul Raheem Zawahreh, who commented that the initiative was carried by the efforts of 3,000 young Jordanians over the span of 12 sessions, in various municipalities.

A number of participants presented the initiative’s key recommendations that revolved around the need to create more opportunities for the youth to take part in political and public affairs and to integrate them into the decision-making process.
