AMMAN — Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) Vice President Nabil Khatib and Brazilian Ambassador to Jordan Ruy Amaral on Wednesday discussed means of enhancing economic relations and the diversification of exchanged products, highlighting the private sector’s role in this arena.
Khatib emphasised the chamber's interest in boosting economic relations with Brazil in various fields, notably increasing trade exchange, and encouraging the private sector to organise joint projects, according to an ACC statement cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Trade exchange with Brazil in 2021 totalled $419 million, of which $293 million were imports to the Kingdom, while Jordanian exports made up $126 million, consisting of mainly potash and fertilisers, the Khatib said.
Amaral noted his country's intention to ink a free trade agreement with Jordan because Brazil seeks to increase its fertiliser imports from Jordan to meet its growing demand.
Trade between Jordan and Brazil has developed in the last five years, noted the diplomat, with Jordanian exports to Brazil going up by 60 per cent, while imports in the same period jumped by 250 per cent.
