ACI’s exports increase by 8%

AMMAN — Exports of the Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI) increased by 8.17 per cent during the first half of 2018, thanks to the rise of exports in seven sectors, ACI data showed on Friday.

ACI statistical data, which were cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, showed that the value of the chamber’s exports in the first half of 2018 stood at JD1.984 billion, up from JD1.834 billion in the same period of 2017.

ACI exports to Iraq in the January-June period of 2018 went up by 33 per cent, standing at JD247 million, compared with JD185 million in the first six months of 2017.

Exports to India increased by 6.75 per cent, placing India at the top of the countries receiving exports, with a value of JD279 million, compared with JD262 million in last year’s first half.

The chamber’s exports to the US went up by 7.27 per cent in the January-June period of 2018, hitting JD239 million, compared with JD222 million the previous year.

The data also showed an increase in ACI exports to the markets of the UAE, Egypt, Lebanon, Belgium and Spain, among others, and a decline to the markets of Indonesia, China, Algeria, Turkey and Yemen, in addition to other countries.

The chamber’s exports were distributed between the mining industries, with a total value of JD502 million, chemical and cosmetic products (JD356 million), medical supplies that amounted to JD274 million, leather and garment sectors (JD215 million), and food, agriculture and livestock with JD206 million.
