'Basma' summer camp to benefit 50,000 school students

AMMAN — The second national “Basma” (fingerprint) programme implemented by the Education Ministry with the support of the Crown Prince Foundation, was launched on Saturday, aiming to invest in students’ time during the summer holiday and acquaint them with necessary skills.

For the second edition of the summer camp “Basma, 140 schools across the Kingdom will open their doors to a total of 50,000 ninth and tenth graders”, the ministry’s director of the activities department, Abdulkarim Yamani, told The Jordan Times recently.

Students will be able to enjoy several sports, arts and musical, social, cultural and technical activities, amongst others, Yamani said.

As Maan Education Directorate launched the summer camp with the participation of 800 students, Head of the Educational and Technical Affairs at the directorate Wahbi Shalabi said that the programme aims at instilling the values of loyalty to the homeland, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Furthermore, 1,200 students from the Southern Mazar Education Directorate are taking part in the activities through three centres in the district, where Education Director Bassam Karaki said that students will receive training on scout, military, computer, sports and human value skills.

Deir Alla Education Director Abed Mousa said that the programme is "a good opportunity" for creativity and providing real environments to unleash talents through practicing them outside the typical educational environment of classrooms. 

Participating student expressed their happiness to participate in the programme that will "help mould their skills and develop their ideas in various walks of life".

The national summer camp, which runs between July 19 and August 18, is implemented in cooperation with the Crown Prince Foundation, the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Youth Ministry, the Public Security Department, the Civil Defence Department and the Gendarmerie, among other public and private institutions.
