AMMAN — The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, approved on Saturday several decisions aimed at bolstering energy security, fiscal compliance, and public welfare throughout the Kingdom.

The Cabinet approved proceeding with the necessary procedures to implement the Sheikh Sabah Port Natural Gas Development Project, an onshore regasification facility that aims to enhance Jordan’s energy independence.

The $125 million facility, expected to be completed within 24 months, will contribute to a diversified energy infrastructure and create new job opportunities for Jordanians, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The Cabinet also extended the mandate of the Tax Settlement and Reconciliation Committee through 2024, allowing companies and individuals with outstanding tax obligations to settle them by December 31, 2023.

The Council also approved new bylaws for urban services in the Greater Amman Municipality, including the Public Parks and Urban Spaces bylaw, which establishes guidelines for  the sustainable management and upkeep of parks, gardens and recreational spaces.

The Cabinet also approved an agreement with the French Institute of the Middle East to digitally archive the records of French archaeological missions in Jerash.
