We are with Jordan — an expulsion of Palestinians is unacceptable

Feb 10,2025 - Last updated at Feb 10,2025

When we open our eyes to the news these days, we are in for a surprise.

When I read the headlines that asked for a transfer of Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt and Jordan, I was perplexed and quite taken aback.

Germany’s transatlantic ties go far and have always been strong.

Our friendship with Israel is a known fact to anybody in the region. However, we are — and have always been — strong supporters for International Law and a two-state solution.

We all agree that Gaza must be rebuilt as swiftly as possible.

Forcible transfer of people from their homes is illegal by international law.

Talking about taking Gaza to build it into what seems to be the idea of a holiday destination while demanding an alternative country of residence for its people is unacceptable.

Undermining the Palestinians’ inalienable right to self-determination will not bring peace to the region.

My country continues to support the ceasefire deal, continues to call for an end to settlers’ violence, continues to work towards a viable Palestinian state and continues to stand with Jordan and His Majesty’s vision for a peaceful Middle East with two states living side by side in prosperity and security.
