AMMAN – The Council of Ministers on Wednesday formed work teams headed by the three deputy prime ministers to discuss “the necessary decisions to be taken in all fields”.
The move was taken as the new Cabinet held its first meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Hani Mulki, after his newly formed government was sworn in before His Majesty King Abdullah earlier in the day, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
During the meeting, Mulki said that the Cabinet’s mission is “to add to achievements and to build on what has been accomplished…. We are civil servants and we will do our outmost to meet the needs of people" he added.
The premier stressed that ministers have to shoulder their responsibilities and make their decisions courageously, rising up to challenges.
Mulki instructed Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Jawad Anani to ensure that his ministry monitors prices of essential commodities, especially during Ramadan, adding that the Civil Service Consumer Corporation sells its goods at cost price.
Mulki went over the 19 points listed in the Royal Letter of Designation, stressing the government's support to the Independent Elections Commission .
As for the administrative reforms His Majesty called for in the letter, the prime minister highlighted the need for young leaders and making leeway for change.
He asserted the importance of "out-of-the-box" economic measures to address challenges and acquaint people with the reality of the economic situation with transparency. He stressed the ability of economy to overcome the challenges and to invest in the future.
