Centre offers ‘free creative space’ to make art through recycling

AMMAN — A centre that opened in Amman in late February is providing free space and materials to artists of all ages and skill levels so that they may use and reuse discarded materials, according to a statement released this week.

The Arts & Crafts Playground “merges waste management with artistic endeavours”, serving as a community space where visitors “can engage in creative experimentation and collaboration”.

It will also host open workshops and “contribute to a wider discourse surrounding the culture of recycling”, the statement said.

Initiated by a group of local artisans, craftspeople and supporters of the arts, it has been established in collaboration with the non-profit Crossroad for Media Arts Services and in partnership with training entities Meela and Knowledge Step. It is also a sub-granted project of SouthMed CV, which is co-funded by the EU.
