Chevening Alumni Association recognises its pioneer scholars 

AMMAN — The Jordan Chevening Alumni Association (JCAA) on Monday held a ceremony to recognise the early pioneers who were awarded the prestigious Chevening Scholarships in the 1980s. 

The ceremony took place at the historic Amman Citadel, gathering Chevening alumni, distinguished guests and key stakeholders under the patronage of British Ambassador Bridget Brind, according to a statement from the association. 

The JCAA aims to foster connections and celebrate the accomplishments of its members within the vibrant Chevening community and beyond, especially its seniors who made a remarkable contribution to the public good, read the statement. 

The British ambassador to Jordan, in her address, commended the energy and enthusiasm exhibited by the new board and expressed her optimism for the future endeavours of the association. She emphasised the pivotal role of the Jordanian alumni within the global Chevening community, acknowledging their substantial contribution to Jordan's growth and prosperity.

Fares Braizat, chairman of the JCAA board, highlighted collaboration among the members to create meaningful change, underlining ongoing efforts to engage every alumnus and harness their skills, knowledge and resources to enhance the development of the country and foster the bilateral relations between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the United Kingdom. 

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of key association strategy highlights by Nart Dohjoka, a board member. His insights showcased the JCAA’s dedication to growth and impact-oriented future planning.

The Chevening Alumni Association is a non-profit Jordanian association that aims to work with Chevening scholarship graduates after their return to Jordan, through membership, networking and engagement in policy-making sessions to leverage the diverse expertise of Chevening alumni, fostering a robust network of leaders committed to advancing Jordan's prosperity and welfare.

The association’s mission is to empower and nurture visionary leaders for a better Jordan. 

Chevening is the UK government’s international scholarships and fellowships programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and partner organisations. It aims to empower outstanding emerging leaders from around the world to study for a one-year master's degree in the United Kingdom. Over 600 individuals from Jordan and more than 55,000 individuals globally have been awarded this prestigious scholarship.

This year the UK marked the 40th Anniversary of Chevening scholarships and fellowships programme.

It has been running in Jordan for 38 years, as the first Jordanian cohort departed in 1985 demonstrating its long-term commitment towards developing future leaders.
