AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, Minister of Culture Haifa Al Najjar on Thursday inaugurated the Amman International Book Fair 2022.

Titled “Jerusalem, the Capital of Palestine”, the fair is organised by the Union of Jordanian Publishers in cooperation with the Culture Ministry and the Greater Amman Municipality.

More than 400 local, regional and international publishing houses from 20 countries are participating in the book fair, including Kuwait, which is the “guest of honour” this year, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The fair’s doors will be open until September 10 at Mecca Mall’s Jordan International Exhibition Centre, celebrating Walid Saif, a writer awarded the Order of King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein of Distinction first class, in recognition of his cultural contributions.

Kuwait is participating in the fair as a guest of honour with a high-level delegation comprising several writers and researchers who are scheduled to participate in a cultural programme that includes symposiums, art events, music and a photo exhibition.

On the sidelines of the book fair, Najjar and Palestinian Culture Minister Atef Abu Saif participated in a symposium titled”The Arab Cultural Scene”.

Najjar said that Jordan seeks to support the cultural activities in cooperation with all stakeholders, noting that an Arab “cultural coalition” is important to highlight the Arab presence at the international level.
