AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, Environment Minister Muawieh Radaideh on Thursday participated in the Stockholm +50 Conference, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The conference, which was inaugurated by King Carl Gustaf on the 50th anniversary of launching the first conference in 1972, was attended by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
In his speech he delivered at the main session, Radaideh said that Jordan is an essential part of the international community, which seeks to confront the three challenges currently facing Earth, namely climate change, pollution and loss of biodiversity.
He referred to Jordanian efforts exerted to protect the environment, despite suffering from limited resources and an increase in population due to forced asylum from neighbouring countries, leading to the depletion of many basic natural resources.
The Jordanian minister urged the international community to fulfill its promises to support countries that suffer from climate change, including Jordan, to achieve sustainable development goals.
During the two-day conference, participants will discuss a number of challenges facing the environment and ways to confront them.
