Economic Modernisation Vision addresses transport, logistics sector concerns

AMMAN — The Economic Modernisation Vision assessed the state of the transport and logistics sector in 2022, and drew a roadmap to increase the sector's contributions to the GDP, aiming for over JD2.9 billion by the end of the next decade. 

The vision also set forth a plan to address transport-related challenges and introduced solutions focused on improving institutional work and reconsidering legislation governing the sector, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The vision's recommendations included enhancing environmental policies and regulations and regional connectivity, developing a sustainable financing mechanism and improving human capabilities. 

The plan also indentifies a need to upgrade infrastructure, and advises that the sector use clean energy sources and smart solutions, and develop the sector's data and information system.

The Economic Modernisation Vision anticipated that transport and logistics exports will increase from  JD0.4 billion in 2021 to JD0.9 billion in 2033.

The government on Tuesday approved the executive plan for the Economic Modernisation Vision (2023-2025), featuring 183 initiatives that will be implemented at a total cost of JD2.3 billion until the end of 2025. 

The plan included the (2023-2027) national strategy for the transport sector, consultancy studies for the 'Toll Roads' project, the modernisation of border crossing centres, upgrades to the Amman Civil Airport's infrastructure for licensing purposes and modernisation of the SCADA customs system.
